GWRCCC Gives DC DPW the Fleet Leadership Award for Biodiesel

Aug 29, 2019

Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition (GWRCCC) awarded DC Department of Public Works (DPW) the Fleet Leadership Award for Biodiesel. DPW has demonstrated its leadership by piloting a new alternative fuel vehicle initiative that contributes to a cleaner environment for DC. The departments current goal of converting garbage packers to B100 is one example of how DPW is saving money and reducing its carbon footprint and toxic emissions.

DPW currently has 6 garbage trucks running on a 100% biodiesel and has ordered equipment to convert another 17 trucks this year. In 2018, the fleet consumed more than 1.1 million gallons of diesel fuel of which 118,000 gallons were biodiesel. The switch to biodiesel resulted in a greenhouse gas emission reduction of more than 1,000 tons to date.

The National Biodiesel Foundation congratulates DPW on its well-deserved recognition and leadership.
